Translator
Sure, AI might help you find that quaint bakery where you'd like to buy croissants and baguettes or the place that sells the best fish and chips in town. But please rely on human, professional translation to assure that valuable (corporate) messages come across as intended! You want to provide correct and reliable information that your target audience understands and feels. You want originality and creativity. You need a translator that understands your project, your goals and intentions as well as the (cultural, political, historical) situation of your clients or readers.
About me
I have always had a passion for reading, writing and language studies. In my professional career I committed myself to creating focused, effective and meaningful communication. I'm curious and conscientious. My master's degrees in Law and in French language and literature (which included a specialisation program in English and translation), allow me to combine an excellent understanding of texts, the skills to research and apply information, and the creativity to tell a compelling story.
Throughout my many years working at the Ministry of Justice of The Netherlands I specialised in public law, migration law, human rights and EU-law. I strengthened my listening, presentation and coaching skills and became adept at coordinating and improving work processes. To broaden my legal horizon, I graduated in environmental law.
I now combine my education, experience and personal interests to work as a dedicated, skilled translator (English and French into Dutch) with a clear expertise in academic and legal texts. Since Dutch is my native language and I aim for perfection 😉, I only translate into Dutch. By blending my proficiency in translating and in copywriting, I can also offer a more thorough localisation or even transcreation service if that fits your wishes, goals and target audience better.
During my language studies and the courses I followed recently, I developed my taste and talent for literary translation. I love the process of deeply understanding the text and transmitting all its layers of meaning in order to recreate a version that allows Dutch readers to truly enjoy the author's originality. So next to my academic and legal translations, I also work as a book translator.
Approach
Feel free to contact me for an introduction or to discuss your objectives and wishes! If I happen to be unavailable by telephone, please try via WhatsApp or mail. I'll get back to you as soon as possible, usually within two hours (even outside office hours). I offer transparent and direct communication.
If my high-quality services match with your project, we'll discuss rates. I promise value for money since no money is being wasted on go-betweens or upscale offices. Prices are determined by factors such as the amount of work, the difficulty of the text(s), the deadline and our working relationship.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
